She and He
She stepped on a pebble, it was big enough to steady her
fingers on it, but she couldn’t balance herself. She then balanced over her firm foot on the
ground. There was a puddle right in front of her, and she looked around and
confirmed that no eyes were at her. The college students were busy bustling
with their vehicles from the parking, and everyone was leaving with their transparent
rain proof attires. Yes!! She would be alone now, no eyes watch her and so she
splashed in the puddle. The momentarily happiness reminded her of her world, innocent and pure, where any such act was taken as an act of
innocence. No one judged her, no one
stopped her, and no one made her care about the society and just like the
splashing sound her nostalgia ended up in seconds all washed away like the
cobweb or dust upon the trees with the first rain. She then realized that she had to return to
her home and hire an auto.
The rains were
heavy and so was her heart. But, her
tears boycotted her for an outlet. She rushed towards the gate where an auto
was always to be found, but the place was empty. She made rapid steps towards
the main street parallel to her college saving herself from the rushing
vehicles splashing the muck. She waited
near the cross roads. It was dark at
3.00pm already!! The street lights were asleep and so were the shops. Then
a car just drew near... Stopped... Opened the windows revealing a young man. Her breathes stopped, she was expression less,
her eyes didn’t succumb into the falling rain. The boy offered her a lift but she
refused and began to walk even more rapidly like a frightened deer.
Still no auto rickshaws were visible. She cursed herself
silently for refusing the boy and again, the car drew parallel this time, a
little more close to her. The windows revealed the boy. This time she agreed. She
sat in the car; it was warm maybe because of the heater. The music was being played; she recognised it
as "words from boyzone". She didn’t dare to look at the boy, she
watched the raindrops play intermingling, racing with each other. The car
stopped near a flat... It was her house!!! She got out of the car with her eyes
down in an inaudible whisper she said "thank you" and before she
could hear a response, she closed the
door and began walking. Her eyes were welled up with tears. She hid near the
stairs and finally, after 5 minutes, she heard the car engine screech and the
rhythm of wheels as rapid as her heartbeats then fading away. She recalled the
face, the same face which was kissed by her, the same face whose smile was a
smile to die for, and the same face who would forget her again in few moments
when it wakes up.
Yes... Forget her or maybe remember her. Just a glimpse
maybe...
Yes she was HIS
dream. They didn’t meet by fate but by sleep, every time. Those heartless eyes
famous for its visions departed them... Everyday... She shared a deep bond
because they didn’t fall for each other by sight but, every time when HIS eyes
closed.
He
woke up. It was still dark, his head was heavy. His hands cramped. He felt
weird, maybe he was still sleep deprived or maybe it was a dream that he was
trying to recall. He recalled a vague but beautiful face, it was vague but he
could say that it was beautiful. He touched his cheeks, they were wet. He went
near the window, it was raining. But, he remembered falling asleep while
looking at the stars. He remembered in his dream driving the car with that
vague but beautiful face. He fumbled for the keys; he found them in his pocket.
He rushed down, running, gasping for breath.
The car was there. He took off its cover. Everything was normal but his hands
fell over the bonnet. It was still warm! He smiled, his heart rushed faster he
went upstairs and went back to his dream world.
I really liked the twist....
